Creagleville Rites Held for Joe Teal

Joseph Preston (Joe) Teal, 56, cattle buyer here, died at his home here Monday morning, following an illness of several months precipitated by a stroke of paralysis last September.

A native of Cleveland, Miss., whre he was born Dec 31, 1889, Teal came to Texas in 1906 and had lived here virtually all his adult life. On March 17, 1912, he was united in marriage to Miss Ethel Long. Two children were born to this union.

Funeral services were conducted from the Creagleville Methodist Church of which he was a member Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. G. B. Carter, pastor of the Troup Methodist Church and former Grand Saline and Creagleville pastor. Burial was in Creagleville Cemetery under direction of Grand Saline Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Dempsey White, Dave Calhoun, Raymond Taylor, John Crume, Ted Ledbetter and Wade Richie.

He is survived besides his wife by two children. Billie Joe Teal of Grand Saline and Mrs. Gaylon Minatrea of Dallas, a granddaughter Ann Minatrea, age 2, of Dallas; and three brothers, Walter and Jack Teal of Grand Saline and Louis Teal of Dallas.

Note: There were two children born to this marriage; Billie Joe (B J) Teal and Nani Lou Minatrea.

Joseph Preston Teal was the son of Mason Edward Teal b. 9 Jan 1856 NC ----died 13 Nov 1934 in Grand Saline, Van Zandt County, Texas.

Edna Ruth Ledbetter b. 23 Dec. 1925 Henderson Co., TX -- died 3 Nov 1993 Van Zandt County, Texas married Billie Joe (B J) Teal on 22nd of December 1945 in Van Zandt County, Texas and they had one daughter, Betty Louise Miller.

Mrs. Ethel L. Teal Rites Held Monday at Creagleville

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ethel L. Teal, 70, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Creagleville Methodist church with Rev. Harold Spann and Rev. B. B. Doughty officiating.

Mrs. Teal died at her daughter's home in Dallas where she had resided since suffering a stroke a year and a half year ago. Prior to that time she had been a life-long resident of Grand Saline.

Burial was in Creagleville Cemetery under the direction of the Bartley Funeral Home. Pallbearers were A. D. McCurley, Buck Golden, Dean Parker, Roy Ledbetter, Horace Ledbetter and Doug Scott.

Survivors include a son, Billy Joe Teal, Dallas; a daughter, Mrs. Gaylon Minatrea, Dallas; a brother Tommy Long, Seminole; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Whitt, Clarendon; Mrs. Lillie Parker, Dallas; Mrs. Jeffie Melton, Grand Saline; and Mrs. Nora Scott, Paducah; and four grandchildren.

Mance E. Teal died at Baylor Hospital, Dallas at 2:30 A. M., Tuesday, May 11, 1937, aged 50 years 5 months 11 days. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, May 12th at the Creagleville Church with Rev. King in charge of the last rites. Interment at Creagleville Cemetery. He was born in Carrolton, Mississippi on 31st August 1886. He came to Texas in 1905 and on 24th December 1911 he was married to Miss Dora White in Grand Saline. Four children were born to this union. These are: Mrs. A. J. Bailiff, Paul, Geneva, and Claudia Gene. He had four brothers, Joe and Walter of Grand Saline; Lewis of Dallas and Jack of Plainview and two grandchildren.

M. E. Teal Died Tuesday at His Home Near Here

M. E. Teal Sr., 78 a resident of Van Zandt county for many years, passed away Tuesday, November 13, at this home a short distance from west of Grand Saline.

Funeral services were conducted at the Creagleville church, and the remains were laid to rest at the Creagleville cemetery.

The deceased is survived by his wife and five sons. These are: Mance, Jack, Joe, Walter and Louis Teal.

(Note: Mason Edward Teal was born 9 Jan 1856 NC and died 13 Nov 1934 Grand Saline, Texas.)

Mrs. Ann Teal, 83 is Taken by Death

Funeral Services for Mrs. Nancy Ann Teal, 83, pioneer resident of Grand Saline and Van Zandt County, who died Sept 26 at the home of Mrs. May Harris here were conducted from the Creagleville Church at 3 o'clock last Thursday afternoon. The Rev. B. A. Watson, pastor of the Methodist Church here, officiated, and burial was in the Creagleville cemetery.

Mrs. Teal, who had made her home with Mrs. Harris for the past two years, was the widow of the late M.E. Teal, who died in 1934. Since his death she had made her home with her children until she was stricken with paralysis about five years ago. A "shut-in", Mrs. Teal was not confined to her bed wholly, and was said to have been very patient with her ailment. A devoted Christian since childhood, she had no children of her own but is survived by six step-sons, Walter and Jack Teal of Grand Saline, Lewis Teal of Dallas, W. D. Grier of Fort Worth, and J. M. and Q. Q. Grier of Grand Saline.

Pallbearers were James Grier, H. O. Grier, Paul Teal, Gayland Minatrea, J. L. Grier and T. J. Haines.

Among out-of-town visitors were Mrs. J. J. Grier and Mrs. Louis Duncan of Forth Worth.

"Jack" Sparkman Thomas Teal was born 3 Jan 1903 Mississippi and died 3 Mar 1968 Grand Saline, Texas. He married Ruby K. Alexander.

Lewis (Louis) Southward Teal was born 1899 in Mississippi and died 1958 in Texas. He married Blanche Skiles.
