C. S. Smith Dies At Leverett's Chapel
Died: 7 Jan 1954

Charles Stewart Smith, 85, resident of Leverett's Chapel for 20 years died at 8:10 p.m. Thursday at this home after a short illness.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Laird Hill Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Kilgore Cemetery.

Mr. Smith, a farmer, was born Sept. 21, 1868 in Claiborn Parish, La. He came to East Texas in 1933 from Paris, Texas. Mr. Smith was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Della Smith; four sons, Elbert and Ples, both of Laird Hill; J. B., Kilgore; and Delbert, Wichita Falls; six daughters, Mrs. Etty(Nolie) Ford, Ashdown, Ark.; Mrs. Nellie Darden, Mrs. Ola Conway, Mrs. Elma Prater and Mrs. Dessie Adams, all of Overton; and Mrs. Willie Mae Petty, Whitesboro; 44 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Rites Arranged Here Wednesday for Mrs. Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. I. Della Smith, 86, of Overton, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. V. M. Nipper officiating.

Burial will be in Kilgore Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith died at 8:25 a.m. today at Overton Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. A member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Leverett's Chapel, she was a housewife.

Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Joe Ford, Ashdown, Ark., Mrs. Freeman Darden, Leverett's Chapel; Mrs. John Conway, Irving; Mrs. B. L. Petty, Whitesboro; Mrs. Elma Prater, Overton; and Mrs. J. E. Adams, Odessa; two sons, J. B. Smith, Kilgore; and P. L. Smith, Overton; a half-sister, Margie Reese, Redwood City, Calif.; one stepson, Delbert Smith, Wichita Falls; 44 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

R. E. Walraven, 70, resident of Fouke, Ark., for 50 years, died Tuesday at Vivian, La.

He is survived by seven children and a foster daughter, including Mary Nomsent of Warren, Ark., Florence McKnight of Fouke, Ollie Calvin, Horner, Charley and Earnest Walraven and Lizzie huber of Fouke and Robert Walraven of Manny, La.; three sisters, Etta Mitchell of Vivian, Della Smith of Overton, Texas, and Maggie Bale of Los Angeles, Calif., 30 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

(Wife of Rubin Delbert Smith, son of Charley S. and Della Walraven Smith)

Funeral services for Mrs. Rosie Caroline, 70, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from the Owens & Brumley Funeral Home chapel with burial in Crestview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Smith, who resided in Wichita Falls at 1112 Calhoun, was born Nov. 29, 1893 in Honey Grove, Texas.

She died Thursday in a Wichita Falls hospital. (Note: 28 Nov 1963)

Survivors include her husband, Delbert Smith; six daughters, Mrs. Lorene butts of Aumsville, Ore., Mrs. Irene Miller of Detroit, Tex., Mrs. Ira Mae Thornberry of Charlie, Tex., Mrs. Ella Beaty and Mrs. Alla Faye Turner, both of Wichita Falls, and Mrs. Otha Lee Lowery of Byers, Tex., two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Childs of Clarksville, Tex., and Mrs. Lular Miller of Dallas; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Elbert C. Smith
Funeral Services Planned Thursday

Elbert C. Smith, 57 of Laird Hill, died Tuesday in Big Spring following a short illness.


Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with C. L. Embrey, Minister of the Laird Hill Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at the Kilgore Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born 14 June 1898, at New Boston, Tex. He moved here eight years ago from Simms, Texas. He was a laborer.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Lena Smith, Laird Hill; his mother, Mrs. Della Smith, Overton; five daughters, Mrs. Marzell Knighten, Glendale, Ariz., Mrs. Don Davis, Texarkana, Mrs. John Wilkins, Garland, and Misses Linda and Patsy Smith, both of Laird Hill; three brothers, Ples and J. B. Smith, both of Kilgore, and Delbert Smith, Wichita Fallas; six sisters, Mrs. Joe Ford, Ashdown, Ark., Mrs. Leslie Petty, Fort Worth, and Mrs. Freeman Darden, Mrs. John Conway, Mrs. Leonard Prater and Mrs. Edgar Adams, all of Overton; and six grandchildren.

Paulbearers will be Townsend Cobb, Jack Graham, Jeff McCanless, John Easterwood, J. D. Hobbs and Bud Roberts.

Roy L. Petty

Services Set Tomorrow for Marine
(Star-Telegram Mid-Cities Bureau- Tuesday Evening, March 9, 1971)

HALTOM CITY – Funeral services for Marine Sgt. Roy L. Petty, 20, who was killed in an accident in Vietnam, will be held at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow at Greenwood Chapel with burial in Mt. Olivet.

Mr. And Mrs. Roy W. Petty of 2325 Fincher Road were notified that their son died Friday when a .45-caliber pistol accidentally discharged and the bullet struck part of a missile, exploding it. Petty, standing nearby, was killed when a missile fragment hit him in the head.

PETTY WAS a veteran of 15 months in Vietnam, where he was stationed most recently with the 1st Marine Division, 5th Regiment, at Quang Nam. He was due to return to the states in 41 days.

PETTY, a native of Whitesboro, was a longtime resident of Tarrant County. He attend North Side High School and was a member of Rainbow Heights Baptist Church.

Other survivors include two brothers, Gary and Steve Petty; two sisters, Terry and Pam Petty, all of Haltom City; and grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. B. L. Petty of Callisburg and Mrs. A. L. Phelps of Whitesboro.

Note: Great-Grandparents were Charley Stewart and Ida Idella "Della" Walraven Smith who lived in Gregg and Rusk counties.

Ples L. Smith (Ples Levi)


Overton
– Services for Ples L. "Smitty" Smith, 78, of Liberty City will be 1 p.m. today at Laird Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron Allen officiating. Burial will be at Kilgore City Cemetery under the direction of Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home of Overton.

He died Saturday. He was born May 11, 1914 in Bowie County and lived in the Kilgore area since 1935. He was a retired truck driver for the City of Irving and operated his own trucking business. He was a member of Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Janie of Kilgore and Charley P. "Jack" of New London; daughter and son-in-law, June Montana and Rudy Montana of Kilgore; sisters, Ola Conway of DeSoto and Elma May of Overton; former wife, Carrie of New London; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Note: Son of Charley S. and Ida Idella "Della" Walraven Smith.

Overton
– Services for Elma F. May, 89, of Overton will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ross Worley officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Hopewell Cemetery in the Latch community near Gilmer.

Mrs. May, a homemaker, died Tuesday at her residence. The family will receive friends 6-7 this evening at the funeral home. (Note: Date of death: 18 March 1997–she was murdered in her home by a unknown person).

Frank Huber

Fouke, Ark. -Frank Edward Huber, 88, of Fouke, Ark., died Wednesday, Jan 6, 1993 in a local hospital.
Mr. Huber was born June 23, 1904 in Many, La. He was retired from Red River Army Depot and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Walraven Huber of Fouke; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy And Myrtis Huber of Fouke, three daughters and son-in-laws, Gale and Frank McFerrin and Betty and Bill Callaway of Fouke and Ella Jean and James Nelson of McAllen, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Texarkana Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Boyce Green and Tommy Launius officiating. Bural will be in Independence Cemetery.
The family will be at the Billy Huber residence in Fouke.

Nolie O. Ford

Ashdown, Ark. - Nolie O. Ford, 89, of Ashdown, died Saturday at a local hospital.
Mrs. Ford was born Feb 25, 1900 at Maud, Texas. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and was proceeded in death by her husband, Joe Ford, who died Nov. 14, 1981.
Survivors include three sons, Perry Ford and Paul Ford, both of Ashdown and Buster Ford of Wilburton, Okla; two daughters, Ethel Mae Morrison and Nellie Smith, both of Ashdown; one brother, Ples Smith of Kilgore, Texas; two sisters, Ola Conway of Duncanville, Texas & Elmer(Elma Frankie) May of Overton, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Madden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Guthrie officiating. Burial will be in Ashdown Cemetery.

G. L. Walraven


He Was a Brother of Councilman Walraven, of Atlanta. Bremen, GA.
August 29, George L. Walraven, brother of Dan Walraven, of Atlanta, who died at a private sanitarium in the city Thursday evening, was interred in the city cemetery at this place this morning at 9 o'clock, the funeral ceremony being conducted by Rev. T.M. Elliott, of VillaRica. Six weeks ago Mr. Walraven was stricken with typhoid-pneumonia at his home in Vill Rica, and was later carried to a private sanitarium in Atlanta. Surviving him are his wife, three children, his father, A. J. Walraven, and one brother, Dan S. Walraven. He was a flagman on the Southern out of Birmingham and a member of the Brotherhood of Trainmen, No. 590. of Birmingham.

A.J. Walraven.
He Died Suddenly at His Residence Yesterday Morning.


A. J. Walraven, 56 years of age, died at his residence, 434 Luckie Street, yesterday morning at 2 o'clock. His death was very sudden and is thought to be the result of apoplexy. He went to bed the night before evidently in the best of health, and his wife was awakened by hearing his gasp for breath. Mr. Walraven is survived by his wife and one son, Dan S. Walraven, councilman from the fifth ward and member of the water board. He is also survived by two brothers, John and Bryant Walraven and one sister, Mrs. Mary Walraven.The body will be taken to Marietta, Ga. this morning at 10 o'clock, where funeral and interment will occur. The deceased was the stepfather of George L. Walraven, whose death occured on August 27.

Funeral services for Judson Clemence Walraven, 41, general manager of the Walraven Machinery and Mills Supply Company, who died Monday at his home on Piedmont Road, will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon from the Baptist Tabernacle, Interment will be in West View cemetery. Besides his widow he is survived by a son, J. C. Walraven, Jr.; a daughter, Miss Frances C. Walraven; a brother, J. R. Walraven, and a sister Mrs. J. M.Chumley.

Walraven - Capt. D. S. Walraven died at the residence, 59 West Fifth Street, Monday afternoon, March 15, 1926. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Miss Julia Walraven and Mrs. H. H. Turner; two sons, Mr. Harold C. Walraven and Mr. Garland Walraven. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Barclay and Brandon. Birmingham papers please copy.
In another Obit it states his name Captain Daniel Sloan Walraven, 57. (the other one stated 59 as age)He was for several years councilman from the Sixth ward, his out- standing work while he served the city being his interest in improving the city water works system. Captain Walraven begain working with the Southern Railroad Company when only17 years of age. He was one of the oldest member of the Order of Railway Conductors, in which he took a prominent part. In fraternal Life, Captain Walraven was very active, being one of the oldest members of Yaarab temple and a member of the Baptist tabernacle.

Mrs. Rose Amos Walraven, 87, long-time Curryville resident, died suddenly Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Gordon Hospital . She was born in Pine Log, Bartow County on March 30, 1919, daughter of the late Robert Franklin Amos and Annie Olivia Hughes Amos. During her lifetime, she was a homemaker, florist, caregiver and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Oostanaula Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Walraven; two brothers, Miller Sylvester "Bud" Amos and Earnest Amos; and four sisters, Ora Godfrey, Ruth Lynch, Evelyn Ballew, and Lydia Esslinger. Survivors include sons, Dwight L. Walraven and his wife, Beth Brown Walraven, and Edwin R. Walraven and his wife, Carol Weaver Walraven; three grandchildren, Kay Walraven Attaway and her husband Walter, Bobby Walraven, and Brett Walraven; several loving nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Dot Thomas. Funeral Tuesday, March 6 at 11 a.m. from Oostanaula Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Langston officiating. Interment in Fain Cemetery. Claudie Mae Hutton Walraven, spouse of Willis Hester Walraven died on January 17, 2007 in Bowie, Texas. She is the mother of Alan Walraven. Claudie was born January 8, 1912 in DeKalb, Texas. Her funeral was Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the Chapelwood Funeral Home Chapel in Texarkana, Texas, followed by burial in the Chapelwood Cemetery.

Hester Walraven was a son of Peter LeRoy Walraven who was a son of William Brooks Walraven and Ferbia Jane Stringfellow. Claudie was the last surviving spouse of any of the children of Peter LeRoy Walraven.Alan Walraven (Wyley Alan) is a participant in the Walraven DNA project.

Mrs. John Walraven, 61 years of age, died yesterday morning at 8 o’clock at her residence, 63 Cherry Street. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. J. M. Chumley, and three sons, O. F., J. C., and J. R. Walraven. The funeral services will be held at the residence this morning at 10o’clock, Rev. Len G. Broughton officiating. Interment will take place in Westview Cemetery.

The body of
George L. Walraven, who died Thursday night at 10 o’clock at a private sanitarium, will be taken to Bremen, Ga., this morning at 8:30 o’clock for funeral and interment. His death was due to an attack of pneumonia, which he survived sixty-eight days.
